My Favorite Boro Colors* This is a very personal and subjective list of boro color preferences. I am sure your list of favorites will look different from mine. Some of the descriptions of the colors reflect the colors that I get with my own torch (Bethlehem Barracuda). You may have different results with your torch set-up. Clear - I prefer Simax. I like the way it melts and it seems clean and...well, clear! GA Silver Strike 3 - A definite favorite! Nice for backing other colors. This one often comes out pale blue with nice outlines for me. You can flame strike or not. GA Silver Strike 5 - Another must. Nice for backing other colors. This one comes out with gold, orange, tinges of blue with strong outlines. Flame strike or not. To keep it more ivory, use reducing flame. GA Purple Luster - An easy purple to strike. Apply hot, let it cool and reheat gently. This one can come out amber, pastel lavender, deep dark purple or a beautiful blue. Strikes quickly. GA Agua Azul - A nice WYSIWYG creamy aqua. Easy to work. GA Kryptonite - A nice WYSIWYG transparent lime green. GA Amazon Jewel, Twilight Chameleon, Blue Luster - All great blues and bluegreens with lots of silver. Can get some metallic luster with a reducing flame. I don't usually flame strike but you can... GA Amazon Lagoon - This one can go from blue (with an oxy flame) to gold (with a reducing flame). You can get lots of metallic luster with the reducing flame. GA Indigo Luster - A definite favorite. A rich blue. You can get very strong metallic luster with a reducing flame. I don't usually flame strike but you can... GA Brilliant Blue - Great WYSIWYG transparent blue. Very nice cased over white. GA Triple Passion - Can be tricky but you can get some nice purples. I like this one over NS Orange for pink/purples. Strike in the flame or kiln. GA Amazon Canyon - I get some nice earthy olives, purples and multi tones with this. I like it over Silver Strike 3 & 5 and it looks great with Disco. Can strike or not for different effects. GA Warm Brown - Good WYSIWYG transparent brown. GA Amazon Night - I get forest greens with this one. Use a neutral to oxy flame because this one reduces easily. I don't usually strike this one. GA Disco Sparkle - WYSIWYG steel sparkle. Nice for an organic effect. I use it straight from the rod. Lots of people mix with clear first. Momkas Exotic Citrus Grapefruit - It is hard to find a good pink. This one comes close. Sometimes I get a pink, sometimes peach, sometimes poop(: Momkas Silver Beach - An easy, reliable striking purple. Strikes quickly. Momkas Purple Thunder - My current favorite purple. Strikes easily. Precision Unobtanium - Very sparkly teal green. WYSIWYG. Precision Jet Black - My current favorite black. WYSIWYG. Elvis Red - Great self-striking transparent red. Will strike easily in the kiln. Northstar Orange & Dark Orange - I usually use this as a backing for GA Triple Passion for cool pink/purples. Flame strike or kiln strike. Northstar Amber Purple and Double Amber Purple - I don't use these much but they are very popular. Work these hot, so they appear transparent, then strike in the flame or kiln. Northstar Millenium Moss - Very sparkly green. There are several formulations. The one that is like the old MM is the most sparkly. Northstar Extra Light Yellow - Great color to layer over reds and oranges to create pinks and fuchsias or over blues to get olive. Try it over other colors too. Flame or kiln strike. Northstar Mystery Aventurine - This one is a mystery. I have gotten color from green to purple to tan. Nice with Amazon Lagoon frit. Can strike or not. Borostix White - Short square sticks of pressed glass. This is my current favorite white because it has less tendency to boil than other whites. WYSIWYG. |
